Overview
Office 2007 is the version that changed the interface for everyone, replacing menus with the ribbon and introducing the file formats that are still the default two decades later. It is also the last release light enough to run comfortably on genuinely old hardware, which is why it keeps getting downloaded long after it stopped being current. On a machine with two gigabytes of memory it opens instantly and does everything most people actually need a document suite to do.
This is the complete Professional configuration, pre-activated, with no product key to enter and no activation wizard on first launch. It installs on modern Windows as well as the older releases it was built for, though it runs as a 32-bit application everywhere. The compatibility components for reading files from newer versions are included in the archive.
What is in this configuration
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access and Publisher are all installed, along with the shared components, the equation tools and the clip organiser. The installer lets you deselect anything you do not want, which is worth doing on a small drive since a full install is considerably larger than a typical one.
The formats introduced here, the ones ending in x, are the same containers current Office uses, so documents produced in this version open in anything newer without conversion. Going the other direction, files saved by very recent versions using newer features may lose some formatting, which is what the compatibility components in the archive are for.
The ribbon, twenty years on
The ribbon was controversial at launch and is now simply how these programs work. In 2007 it is at its most literal, with large buttons, obvious grouping and contextual tabs that appear when a table or an image is selected. Anyone coming from a newer version will find it familiar immediately, and anyone coming from the menu era will find it takes about a week.
The quick access toolbar above the ribbon is fully customisable and is the fastest way to make this version comfortable, since the commands you use constantly can be pulled out of whichever tab buried them. Keyboard shortcuts from the menu era largely still work, which quietly makes the transition easier than the interface change suggests.
Running it on a modern machine
It installs and runs on current Windows without special handling, though a couple of things behave differently. Very high resolution displays will show it slightly blurry unless scaling compatibility is set on the executables, and the help system expects components that newer Windows no longer ships. Neither affects the programs themselves.
Outlook in this version connects to standard mail servers over the usual protocols but will not connect to modern accounts that require newer authentication. If mail is the reason you want this, check that first. For documents, spreadsheets and presentations there is no such limitation.

Installing it
- Uninstall any other Office version first if you want this one to own the file associations.
- Run the installer as administrator and choose the custom option to deselect components you do not need.
- Let setup complete. It does not require a restart on modern Windows.
- Open Word once. There should be no activation wizard and no key prompt.
- Install the compatibility pack from the archive if you receive files from newer versions.

Questions about this release
Will it open files from current Office versions?
Yes for the common cases, since the formats are the same family. Very new features may not render, which is what the compatibility pack helps with.
Can Outlook connect to a modern mail account?
Often not. This version predates the authentication most current providers require. Documents are unaffected.
Does it run on Windows 11?
Yes. It installs and runs, with minor blurriness on high resolution displays unless scaling compatibility is set.
Is there a 64-bit version?
No. Office 2007 is 32-bit only, which is fine on any modern Windows install.

Word and Excel are all I needed. Deselected the rest during setup and it took under five minutes.
Outlook would not talk to my mail provider as expected. Everything else is perfect.
Comments are read before they appear. If a build stops working, say so here and it gets rebuilt rather than quietly left up.
