Overview
Revit models a building as objects that know what they are. A wall is a wall with a type, a thickness, a fire rating and a cost, not a set of lines that look like one. Every drawing, schedule and section is a view onto that single model, so moving a door in a plan moves it in the elevation, the section, the schedule and the quantity take off at the same time. That is the whole proposition, and on a coordinated project it is transformative.
The trade is that Revit demands you work its way. It is unforgiving of ad hoc geometry and slow to learn, and a badly set up model gets worse over time rather than better. This build carries all three discipline sets, the family editor and the full API, licensed offline with no network licence manager.
Modelling and disciplines
The architectural, structural and building services tools are all present in one install rather than split across products. Walls, floors, roofs, stairs and curtain systems on the architectural side; framing, foundations and analytical models on the structural side; ducts, pipes, cable containment and the systems that connect them on the services side.
The family editor is where the program becomes properly powerful. Custom components built with parameters, constraints and type catalogues behave correctly wherever they are placed and schedule correctly afterwards. Most established offices run on a library of families built in house over years.
Documentation and schedules
Views, sheets and titleblocks assemble a drawing set from the model, and view templates keep graphic standards consistent across hundreds of views. A change to a template updates every view using it.
Schedules are live queries against the model. A door schedule is not a table someone typed, it is the doors, and it updates the moment one is added. Quantity take off works the same way, which is why the model has to be built with reasonable discipline for the numbers to be trustworthy.
Coordination and interchange
Worksharing lets several people work in one model through a central file, with element level ownership and a synchronise cycle. Linked models let disciplines stay in separate files while remaining coordinated, and clash detection runs against the combination.
The BIM exchange format is supported for handing the model to consultants on other platforms, and the CAD exchange formats import and export for the two dimensional work that still arrives that way.

Installing it
- Set aside real time. This install takes considerably longer than most.
- Suspend real time protection for the whole process.
- Run setup as administrator and let the shared Autodesk components install.
- Apply the licensing step from the notes before the first launch.
- Open once, create a blank project, and confirm no trial counter appears.

Are all the disciplines included?
Yes, architectural, structural and services in one install rather than as separate products.
Does it need a licence server?
No. Licensing is applied offline in this build.
Can I open models from an older Revit?
Yes, and they upgrade on open. The upgrade is one directional, so keep a copy of the original.
Will my add-ins work?
Yes, the API is untouched and add-ins install to the usual location.

Nine gigabytes and a very long install, but it went through and opens with no counter.
Our in house add-ins loaded straight away. API is fully there.
Comments are read before they appear. If a build stops working, say so here and it gets rebuilt rather than quietly left up.
Central file sync on a 900 MB model is noticeably faster than 2026. All three disciplines present.
