Overview
AutoCAD is the drafting program that most other CAD tools are measured against, and the format it writes is the exchange currency of the whole industry. Two dimensional drafting is where the majority of its work still happens: plans, sections, details, schedules, the drawings that get printed and built from. The three dimensional side is capable and mostly used for coordination rather than as a primary modelling environment.
This build is licensed offline, so it opens into a drawing rather than a sign-in panel and does not need a network licence server or a subscription check. The specialised toolsets, the customisation and API surfaces, and the sheet set manager are all present, which is what separates the full product from the cut down viewer editions.
Drafting and annotation
The command line is still the fastest way to drive the program and remains the reason experienced drafters are quicker in it than in anything modern. Object snaps, dynamic input, polar tracking and the layer system have not changed in ways that break muscle memory, which is a deliberate and correct decision.
Annotative scaling is the feature worth learning if you have not: text, dimensions and hatches sized once and displayed correctly at every viewport scale, instead of maintaining a separate set for each. It removes a category of error that used to appear only at plotting time.
Sheets, references and collaboration
The sheet set manager treats a drawing package as one object, so numbering, titles and revision data stay consistent across a hundred sheets and update from one place. On a project of any size it is the difference between a coordinated set and an afternoon of manual corrections.
External references let a drawing pull in survey data, structural grids or another discipline's model without copying it, so an update propagates on reload. Compare shows exactly what changed between two revisions of the same drawing, highlighted in the drawing itself.
Toolsets and customisation
The specialised toolsets add discipline libraries and automated tools for architectural, mechanical, electrical and mapping work. They are part of the full product and are included here rather than being separate purchases.
Customisation is unrestricted in this build. Scripts, macros, the developer API and third party add-ins load normally, which matters because most established offices run on a stack of in house tools built over many years.

Installing it
- Remove any trial or previous 2027 installation before starting.
- Suspend real time protection for the whole install, which is long.
- Run setup as administrator and let it install the shared components.
- Do not launch the program until the licensing step in the notes has been applied.
- Open once and confirm the title bar does not show a trial day count.

Does it need a licence server?
No. Licensing is applied offline in this build, so there is no network licence manager involved.
Are the toolsets included?
Yes, all of them, rather than as separate installs.
Will my add-ins load?
Yes. Customisation and the developer API are untouched.
Can I open drawings from older versions?
Yes, and you can save back to the older formats from the save dialog.
