Overview

PDFelement's argument has always been that a full featured PDF program does not have to be intimidating, and the interface backs that up. Tools are grouped by what you are trying to achieve rather than by how the file format works, the panels stay out of the way until called, and the common operations are two clicks from the document. It is the program people recommend to someone who has never edited a PDF before and does not want a lesson first.

This is the Pro tier with the licensing settled ahead of time, which means text recognition, redaction, batch processing, form data extraction and the full conversion set are all available. Nothing saved or printed carries a watermark, there is no trial period, and the account prompts and updater have been taken out of this build so the program opens straight into a document.

Editing

Text edits in paragraphs with the fonts matched from the document, and the layout reflows sensibly when content is added or removed. There is a line mode as well for the cases where a document's structure means paragraph editing does the wrong thing, which is a thoughtful inclusion that several competitors lack.

Images can be replaced, cropped, rotated and extracted, and links, bookmarks, headers, footers, page numbers, watermarks and backgrounds are all applied through their own straightforward panels. Page management covers insertion, deletion, rotation, extraction, splitting and merging, with a thumbnail view that supports drag reordering across multiple open documents.

Recognition, conversion and batch work

Text recognition handles scanned documents in a long list of languages, producing either a searchable document with the original appearance kept or a fully editable one. Multi column layouts and tables are handled reasonably well, though as with any recognition engine a badly scanned original will need checking.

Conversion runs to and from the word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, image and web formats. Batch mode applies conversion, recognition, watermarking, encryption or data extraction across a folder in one operation, with progress reported per file and failures logged rather than stopping the queue.

Forms, protection and review

Forms can be built from scratch with the full field types including calculated fields, or recognised automatically from a flat document. Data from a set of completed forms extracts to a spreadsheet in one pass, which turns a folder of returned forms into a usable table without retyping anything.

Protection covers password encryption with per permission control, certificate based signing, and redaction that deletes the underlying content. The annotation set is complete with author attribution, and comments can be exported as a summary. Document comparison shows what changed between two revisions.

Questions about this release

Is it easier to learn than the alternatives?

That is its main claim and it holds up. Tools are grouped by task rather than by format mechanics, which suits someone who edits a PDF occasionally.

Does the Pro tier include recognition?

Yes, and this build is the Pro tier, so recognition, redaction, batch work and form extraction are all present.

Can it pull data out of a folder of filled forms?

Yes, straight to a spreadsheet in one pass, including folders where the layouts differ.

Is there any watermark or trial limit?

No. The licensing is settled here and output is clean.

Gave this to a colleague who had never edited a PDF and she was done in five minutes with no help from me.

Form data extraction across a folder saved me an afternoon of retyping. Straight into a spreadsheet.

No account prompt at all in this build, opens straight to the document. Clean saves, no marks.

Comments are read before they appear. If a build stops working, say so here and it gets rebuilt rather than quietly left up.
