Serato DJ Pro Suite 4

Overview

Serato DJ Pro is what a very large share of working DJs actually perform on, and the Suite is the version with all the expansion packs unlocked instead of sold individually. That means stem separation, the video pack, the sampler expansion, the flip and slicing tools and the full effects set are all present from the first launch. It runs with a controller, with turntables through a certified interface, or entirely on a laptop keyboard when there is no hardware in the room.

The reliability is the selling point. It loads tracks instantly from an indexed library, holds beatgrids accurately across long sets, and does not drop audio when something else on the machine misbehaves. This build has the licensing applied locally with no sign-in, no subscription check and no expansion pack store prompting from the corner of the screen.

Library, analysis and preparation

The library indexes your music, analyses it for tempo, key and beat positions, and stores the result so a track loads and is ready immediately. Beatgrids can be corrected by hand where the analysis has misread a live recording or a track with a slow intro, and the correction is saved into the library rather than recalculated each time. Crates and smart crates organise the collection, with smart crates built from rules that update themselves.

Preparation work is where sets are actually made. Cue points, loops, saved loops and flips are set in advance and recalled during a set with a colour coded pad layout. Key detection allows harmonic mixing with the compatible keys highlighted as you browse, and track history is written after every session so you can find what you played three months ago.

Performing

The mixing surface handles two to four decks with the waveform display that Serato is known for, showing the transients clearly enough to beatmatch by eye when the monitoring is bad. Sync is available and so is fully manual pitch riding, and the software does not force a choice between them. Slip mode lets you cut, scratch or loop and drop back into where the track would have been.

Stem separation runs in real time on the playing track, splitting it into vocals, melody, bass and drums so parts can be muted, isolated or swapped between tracks live. This is the feature that changed how transitions are built, and in this build it is included rather than being a paid expansion. Quality depends on the source, and a dense mix separates less cleanly than a sparse one.

Effects, sampling and video

The effects set covers the standard performance effects with beat linked timing, plus the more aggressive ones for transitions, all assignable to the hardware or to keys. Effects can be chained and each can be held momentarily rather than latched, which is what most live use actually needs.

The sampler holds banks of one shots and loops triggered from pads with per slot pitch, volume and playback mode. The video pack outputs to a second screen or a projector, mixing video files alongside the audio with the same crossfader, adding transitions and effects, and overlaying text or images. For a venue that wants visuals without a separate operator it is enough on its own.

System requirements

Installing it

1. Unpack the archive to a local folder.
2. Disconnect your controller before installing, then connect it after the first launch.
3. Turn off real time protection for the install.
4. Run setup as administrator and let the driver components install when prompted.
5. Open the application and let it analyse your library once before performing with it.
