Overview
Mocha is the tool that solved planar tracking and then stayed solved. Instead of following points, it tracks a surface, which means it holds a lock on a moving object through motion blur, partial occlusion and shots with no trackable detail at all. Screen replacements, sign removals, object removals and rotoscoping that would otherwise be frame by frame work all become tractable because of it, which is why it appears in the credits of essentially every large production.
This build carries both the standalone application and the plug-in versions that install inside supported editors and compositors. It is licensed, so every module is open, tracking data exports to every supported format without restriction, and rendered output from the remove and insert modules comes out clean.
Planar tracking in practice
You draw a shape around a surface that moves as a plane, a wall, a phone screen, a car door, a section of a face, and the tracker solves its motion across the shot. Because it is solving a surface rather than following features, it survives the frames where a point tracker loses everything. On difficult shots the answer is usually to track a smaller area of consistent texture rather than the whole object, which is the single most useful piece of advice about the program.
The solved motion comes out as corner pin data, transform data or a full camera solve depending on what you need downstream. It exports to every common compositor and editor format, so the track is done here and applied there, which is exactly how most facilities use it.
Remove, insert and stabilise
The remove module takes a tracked area and paints it out using clean frames from elsewhere in the shot, aligning them through the planar track. For a rig removal or a sign that has to disappear, it produces a result in minutes that hand painting would take days to match.
Insert does the opposite, pasting a replacement image onto the tracked surface with correct perspective, motion blur and edge blending, which is the entire screen replacement workflow in one module. Stabilise smooths or locks a shot using the planar solve rather than a point track, holding a lock on the specific surface you care about rather than an average of the frame.
Roto, mesh warp and lens work
Rotoscoping is where the time saving is largest. Shapes are attached to the planar track so they follow the motion themselves, and the shape only needs adjusting where the form genuinely changes. The mesh warp tracker handles organic movement that is not planar at all, subdividing the surface so a shirt or a face can be tracked and matte painted onto.
The lens module calculates and removes distortion from a shot, lets the work happen on an undistorted plate, and reapplies the distortion at the end so the insert sits correctly in the original image. Skipping that step is why composited elements sometimes slide against the frame near the edges, and doing it properly is what separates a clean job from an obvious one.

Installing it
- Close every host application before starting.
- Turn off real time protection and run the installer as administrator.
- Choose both the standalone application and the plug-in versions when asked.
- Confirm the detected host list so the plug-ins land in the right folders.
- Launch the standalone once and run a short track to confirm export is unrestricted.

Questions about this release
Standalone or plug-in?
Both are included. The standalone is better for heavy roto and remove work, the plug-in is faster when the shot is already in a host timeline.
Does exported tracking data carry any restriction?
No. The licence is applied, so data exports to every supported format and rendered output is clean.
My track keeps slipping. What now?
Track a smaller area with consistent texture rather than the whole object, and check whether the surface is genuinely planar. Use mesh warp if it is not.
Do I need the lens module?
On wide angle plates, yes. Working undistorted and reapplying at the end is what stops an insert sliding near the frame edges.
