Overview
Dimension is the answer to a specific problem: a designer has a label, a box design or a logo, and needs an image of it existing in the world rather than lying flat on a page. It is not a modelling application and does not try to be. You bring in a model, apply your artwork to it as a material, put it in a scene with a background and a light setup, and render something that looks like a photograph of a product that does not exist yet.
The reason it works is that the difficult parts are handled. Lighting comes from image based environments that carry real world light, so shadows and reflections behave correctly without anyone setting up a light rig. The camera has a proper depth of field and matching to a background photograph is largely automatic. This build is pre-activated with no sign-in prompt, and the material and model libraries are bundled locally rather than streamed from a service.
Models, materials and artwork
The starter library covers the shapes that most product work needs: boxes, bottles, cans, tubes, jars, bags and generic devices, all with the geometry set up so artwork wraps correctly. External models can be imported in the common exchange formats and inherit the same material system. Nothing has to be modelled inside the application, which is the point.
Artwork is applied as a material with a decal channel, so a flat design file becomes a printed label with the correct curvature, edge wrap and surface response. Material properties cover roughness, metalness, translucency, and a bump channel for embossing or texture, and the base material library includes the surfaces a product actually sits on: brushed metal, coated card, matte plastic, frosted glass, fabric.
Lighting and scene setup
Environment lighting drives the whole look. The bundled environments are captured light rather than approximations, so an object placed in one picks up its colour, its shadows and its reflections coherently. Rotating the environment moves the light around the object, which is faster than any manual lighting adjustment and almost always looks better.
For compositing onto a photograph, the match image feature analyses a background and works out the camera angle, the light direction and the perspective, then sets the scene up to match. The result usually needs a small manual correction rather than a rebuild. Ground plane shadows and reflections can be enabled separately so an object can sit on a real surface in the photograph.
Rendering and output
The renderer produces a physically based result with progressive preview, so the scene refines in the viewport while you work rather than making you commit to a render to see anything. Final rendering can run at several quality levels, and the render is written out with the object, the shadow, the reflection and the background on separate layers so the composite can be adjusted afterwards without re-rendering.
Output goes to the layered document format for finishing in a raster editor, or to flat images for direct use. Rendering uses the graphics card where one is available and falls back to the processor where it is not, which is slower but produces the same image. Scenes can also be published as an interactive view for showing a product from any angle.

Installing it
- Unpack to a path without spaces or accented characters.
- Turn off real time protection for the install.
- Run setup as administrator.
- Launch once and let the local libraries register. The first start is slower than the rest.
- No sign-in appears and the content libraries load from disk rather than a service.

Questions about this release
Can I model in it?
No. It stages, textures, lights and renders. Geometry comes from the library or from an imported file.
Do the content libraries need an account?
No. They are bundled locally in this build rather than streamed, so everything is available offline.
Is a graphics card required?
No, but rendering on the processor alone is considerably slower. The resulting image is identical.
What comes out of a render?
A layered document with the object, shadow, reflection and background separated, or a flat image if you prefer.
Comments
Libraries load offline, no account screen. That was the reason I could not use the official one.
Decal stretching on the tapered bottle is fixed. Was the one thing forcing me elsewhere.
Comments are read before they appear. If a build stops working, say so here and it gets rebuilt rather than quietly left up.
Label mockups that used to take a day take an hour. Match image is close enough to fix in five minutes.
