Overview

WPS Office is the suite people install when they need to open a document today and do not want to spend the afternoon on a licence. It ships a writer, a spreadsheet program and a presentation program in one window, all three sharing a tabbed shell so a morning of work sits in a single taskbar entry instead of nine. The file handling is the reason it survives: it reads and writes the modern Office formats natively, keeps track changes and comments intact on a round trip, and does not reflow a heavily formatted document into nonsense the way lighter editors do.

This is the full desktop build with the premium feature set already unlocked. The cloud upsell panel, the advertising strip along the bottom of the document window and the nagging upgrade dialogs have all been removed from the repack, so what launches is a plain office suite with no interruptions. PDF export, PDF editing, the OCR module and the batch conversion tools are all present rather than locked behind the paid tier.

Writer, Spreadsheets and Presentation

Writer covers the document work most people actually do: styles, section breaks, headers and footers, tables of contents that rebuild themselves, footnotes, mail merge from a spreadsheet source, and a comparison tool for two versions of the same file. It reads DOC and DOCX including older files with embedded objects, and the layout engine holds column and text box positions in a way that matters when a document has to be printed exactly as it was written.

Spreadsheets handles the standard formula set, pivot tables, conditional formatting, data validation and charting, and it opens XLSX files with formulas resolved rather than converted to values. Macros written for the Office object model run through a compatible interpreter, which covers most simple automation but not the more elaborate add-in projects. Presentation does slides, transitions, speaker notes and a presenter view across two displays, and exports to the standard formats and to video.

The PDF side of the suite

The PDF component is the part that most justifies keeping this installed. It opens documents fast, annotates them, merges and splits, reorders and rotates pages, and exports PDF back out to editable document and spreadsheet formats with the table structure preserved more often than not. In this build the page count limits and the watermark that the free tier stamps on converted output are both gone.

OCR is bundled offline rather than routed to a service, so a scanned page can be turned into selectable text on a machine with no network at all. Accuracy on clean print is high, and on a photographed page it depends entirely on how straight the shot was. There is a batch mode that will walk a folder of scans and write the recognised text into the files in place.

Why it stays small

The whole suite installs in around 700 MB and starts in a couple of seconds on a mechanical drive, which is the reason it ends up on older office machines and on laptops that have run out of room. There is no background service, no telemetry agent and no updater in this repack, so it costs nothing when it is not open.

The trade off is that the deepest corners of the bigger suites are not here. Very complex VBA projects, some of the newer dynamic array functions and a handful of niche chart types will not survive a round trip. For everyday documents, invoices, reports and slide decks it is difficult to notice the difference.

Questions about this release

Will it replace my existing office suite?

No. It installs alongside and only takes over file associations if you let it on the last page of setup, which you can decline.

Do converted PDFs carry a watermark?

No. The conversion watermark and the page count limit are both removed in this build.

Do Office macros run?

Simple ones do, through a compatible interpreter. Large VBA projects with form objects and external references will not.

Is there a cloud account prompt?

The cloud component is stripped out of this repack, so nothing asks you to sign in and nothing syncs anywhere.

Put this on an old office laptop that could not cope with the big suite. Opens everything the accountant sends, no ad bar.

PDF to spreadsheet actually kept the table columns. Did not expect that at this size.

Installed in under a minute. Declined the file association page and it left my defaults alone.

Comments are read before they appear. If a build stops working, say so here and it gets rebuilt rather than quietly left up.
