Overview
Every drive in a machine is already recording its own health data. The problem is that the raw attributes are cryptic, thresholds vary by manufacturer, and the built in tools report a drive as fine right up until it is not. Hard Disk Sentinel reads all of it, interprets it against what the specific model actually means by each value, and reduces it to two numbers, health and performance, plus a plain sentence about what is happening.
The Professional tier is what makes it a monitoring tool rather than a reporting one. This build has that tier applied, so scheduled alerts, the backup triggers, the full logging and the surface test set are all available. It supports internal drives, external enclosures, solid state drives with their own attribute set, and drives behind most common controllers.
What the health number actually means
Health is derived from the attributes that predict failure, reallocated sectors, pending sectors, uncorrectable errors and the model specific equivalents. A drive at 100 percent has none. A drive that drops to 90 has begun reallocating, which is not an emergency but is a change that will continue. The text description says which attribute moved and by how much, rather than leaving you to interpret a raw number.
The estimated lifetime figure is the part people either love or distrust. It is an extrapolation from the rate of degradation, so on a stable drive it reads as a very long time and on a degrading one it shortens quickly. Treat the direction of travel as the signal rather than the number itself. A health figure that drops two points in a week means back it up now regardless of what the remaining estimate says.
Alerts, logging and automatic response
Alerts fire on a health drop, a temperature threshold or a specific attribute change, delivered as a notification, a sound, a message, or by running a command. The command option is the powerful one, since it lets a health drop trigger a backup script automatically rather than depending on somebody reading a notification.
Everything is logged continuously, so a drive that failed suddenly usually turns out to have a long slow slope in the history that nobody was watching. Temperature is logged with maximum and average over configurable periods, which is how you find out that a drive in a badly ventilated case is running fifteen degrees hotter than its neighbour.
Surface tests and solid state drives
The surface test set includes read tests, write tests, a repair pass that forces a drive to reallocate a weak sector before it becomes unreadable, and a reinitialise that writes the whole surface. The write tests destroy data and the program says so clearly before running them. Reading the warning matters here more than anywhere else in the program.
On solid state drives the relevant attributes are completely different, and the program reads the manufacturer specific ones rather than pretending a mechanical model applies. Estimated remaining write endurance, total data written and the spare block count are the ones to watch. A solid state drive at 90 percent endurance after a year is being written to far harder than it should be, which is worth knowing before it matters.

Installing it
- Run the installer as administrator.
- Apply the tier step from the archive before the first launch.
- Open the program and let it read every attached drive before changing anything.
- Set a temperature alert and a health drop alert, and point the health alert at a backup command if you have one.
- Leave it running in the tray. It is only useful as a monitor if it is monitoring.

The health dropped a few percent. Is the drive dying?
Not immediately, but it has started reallocating and that trend continues. Back it up now and plan a replacement rather than panicking.
Is the lifetime estimate accurate?
Treat it as a direction rather than a date. A fast drop in health matters far more than the number of days it prints.
Does it work on solid state drives?
Yes, and it reads the correct manufacturer specific attributes rather than applying a mechanical drive model.
Will the surface test destroy my data?
The read tests will not. The write and reinitialise tests will, and the program warns clearly before running them.
