Overview
Drivers are the least interesting part of maintaining a computer and the one that causes the most stubborn problems. A fresh installation with no network driver cannot download a network driver. A sound device that shows up as an unknown device gives you a hardware identifier and nothing else. An old laptop's manufacturer page went offline three years ago. Driver Talent exists for all three of those afternoons.
It scans the hardware, identifies each device by its hardware identifier rather than by guessing from the model name, and matches it against a driver library. Before it installs anything it backs up what is currently there, so a driver that turns out to be worse than the one it replaced is a two click rollback rather than a recovery operation. Scanning and installing
The scan lists every device with its current driver version, the available version, and whether the device is working, missing a driver entirely or reporting an error. Installation is per device or in bulk, with a restore point created first and the existing driver backed up before it is replaced.
Where it is most useful is the unknown devices. A device with no driver shows only as an unrecognised entry in Windows, and matching it means reading the hardware identifier and looking it up. The program does exactly that, which usually turns a mystery entry into a named card reader or a named sensor hub within seconds.
The offline machine problem
This is the feature worth having. On a working computer you tell the program which machine you are fixing, either by scanning it to a file from a portable copy or by selecting the hardware profile, and it downloads a driver package for that machine. Copy the package to a USB stick, run it on the broken machine, and the network driver goes in without a network.
For anyone who reinstalls Windows on other people's machines this saves the recurring embarrassment of a completed installation with no way to get online. The package can include the whole driver set for the target machine rather than only networking, which makes the first boot after a reinstall a much shorter job.
Backup, restore and uninstall
Every installed driver can be backed up to a file, and the backup set can be restored onto the same machine after a reinstall, which is far faster than fetching everything again. Restoring a single driver rolls one device back to the version that worked, which is the correct response to a graphics update that introduced a flicker.
The uninstall tool removes a driver and its leftover files properly, including entries for devices that are no longer connected. Those hidden ghost devices accumulate on a machine that has had a lot of hardware attached and occasionally cause conflicts long after the device itself is gone.
Things to be sensible about
Do not update drivers that are working simply because a newer number exists. The devices worth keeping current are graphics and chipset, and even then a new graphics driver is best installed when you have a reason. Everything else can sit at whatever version is stable.
The program also handles peripheral drivers and the runtime components that games commonly need, which is a convenience rather than a necessity. It does not install anything without being told to, and there is no background service beyond an optional scheduled scan.

Should I update every driver it finds?
No. Graphics and chipset are worth keeping current. A working audio or card reader driver should be left alone.

Does a bad driver leave me stuck?
No, provided you let it back up first. Restore the previous version for that device and restart.
Is there a background service?
