Overview

Technical Suite is what you reach for when the drawing has to be correct rather than attractive. It is built around the documentation workflow: bring in CAD geometry, project it into a clean 2D view, dress it with callouts and dimensions that stay attached to what they point at, and publish the result into a manual that can be regenerated when the engineering changes. The illustration engine underneath is the same one CorelDRAW uses, so anyone who has drawn vectors before is not starting from scratch.

This is the full suite rather than the illustration application alone. XVL Studio for handling 3D assemblies, the technical illustration workspace, the raster editor, the font manager and the CAD import filter set are all in the package. The build is pre-activated, so there is no trial counter, no account prompt on launch and no licensing service in the background.

From 3D assembly to 2D illustration

The suite reads 3D formats directly, including the neutral interchange formats and several native ones, and lets you orbit an assembly to the exact angle the illustration needs before projecting it. The projection comes across as editable vector geometry with hidden lines resolved, not as a flat image, so line weights can be graded afterwards to give the drawing depth. Exploded views are built by pulling components along an axis with the connecting leader lines generated automatically.

The important part is that the link back to the source model can be kept. When the assembly changes, the projection updates and the callouts stay attached to the components they were pointing at rather than sliding into empty space. That is the difference between redrawing a manual and regenerating it.

Callouts, dimensions and standards

Dimension tools follow the drafting conventions rather than the graphic design ones. Linear, angular, radial and ordinate dimensions all snap to geometry and hold their association, so moving a part moves the dimension with it. Callout numbering can be generated from a parts list and reflowed automatically when an item is inserted, which is the tedious job this software exists to remove.

Output can be produced to the technical publication standards, including the vector formats used for interactive electronic manuals. There is a batch publish path that walks a set of drawings and produces the whole document set in one pass, with a log of anything that failed to resolve.

The illustration tools underneath

Everything the drawing side of CorelDRAW does is available here: the node editing tools, the shaping and boolean operations, the multi page document model, the colour styles and harmonies, the type engine with OpenType feature support, and the print production checks. Symbol libraries are shared across documents, so a standard set of arrows, warning marks and hardware components can live in one place for a whole team.

The raster editor is included for the moments when a photographic element has to be cleaned up before it goes into a plate, and the font manager keeps a project's typefaces gathered without installing them system wide. Colour management runs end to end with proper profile handling, which matters when a manual is going to a commercial printer.

Installing it

  1. Unpack to a path with no spaces or accented characters.
  2. Turn off real time protection for the duration of the install.
  3. Run setup as administrator and choose a typical installation unless you need to exclude components.
  4. Do not launch the suite from the installer's finish page. Close it first.
  5. Start the application from the shortcut. The licence state is already applied and no sign-in appears.

Questions about this release

Can it open files from the standard graphics suite?

Yes, the document format is shared. A drawing made in the graphics suite opens here with everything intact, and the reverse works as long as no technical dimension objects are used.

Does the link to the 3D source really update?

It does, provided the source file stays where it was and component identifiers do not change. If parts are renamed in the model the associations to those parts will drop.

Which 3D formats can it read?

The neutral interchange formats plus several native assembly formats. The full filter list is shown in the import dialog after install.

Is a licensing service installed?

No. The licensing component is removed in this repack, so nothing runs between sessions.

Manual regeneration after an engineering change took twenty minutes instead of two days. That is the whole point of it.
