Overview

CapCut is what a lot of people reach for when the job is to cut something today and put it out today. The timeline is simple enough to learn in an afternoon, the effect and transition library is large, and the automatic tools cover the tedious parts: captions from the audio, background removal without a green screen, beat detection for a music cut. It is not a replacement for a full editor on a long project, but on short form it is often faster from card to finished file than anything else.

This build has the pro side unlocked. That means the effects and templates marked as paid are available, exports go out at full resolution with no watermark, and the automatic caption and background removal tools run without a usage cap. The account panel is left in place but nothing requires signing in.

Cutting quickly

The timeline is single track first with layers added as needed, which suits the way short form is actually assembled. Clips snap to beats when a music track is analysed, and the auto cut tools will rough out a sequence from a folder of clips that you then tighten by hand.

Text is where the program spends most of its polish. Animated title presets are numerous and mostly tasteful, and they can be edited rather than only applied, so a house style can be built and saved.

The automatic tools

Auto captions transcribe the audio and lay the text on the timeline as editable clips with a chosen style, which on a talking head video removes the single most tedious task in the whole edit. Accuracy is good on clear speech and drops on heavy accents or overlapping voices, so a proofread pass is still needed.

Background removal works without a green screen and holds up on a subject that stays reasonably still against a distinct background. Fast movement and matching colours will break it. Both of these run locally in this build rather than as a hosted call.

Export

Export presets cover the vertical and square formats along with the standard horizontal ones, at up to 4K with a selectable bitrate and frame rate. Hardware encoding is used where the graphics card supports it.

Nothing is stamped on the output in this build. The watermark that the free version applies to certain effect and template exports is not present.

Questions about this release

Is the export really watermark free?

Yes, including exports that use templates and effects from the paid tier.

Do I need to sign in?

No. The account panel is still in the interface but nothing depends on it.

Do the captions need an internet connection?

No. The transcription models are bundled and run on the machine.

Can it handle a long edit?

It will, but a forty minute timeline is not what it was built for. Use a full editor for long form.

Captions in one click and no watermark. That is the entire reason I stopped paying for it.

Templates that were locked before are all there now. Export at 4K is clean.

Background removal is decent if you do not move much. Fair for what it is.

Comments are read before they appear. If a build stops working, say so here and it gets rebuilt rather than quietly left up.
