Overview
AutoCAD Electrical is AutoCAD with the knowledge of what a wire is. Drawing a control schematic in plain AutoCAD is entirely possible and entirely manual: every wire number typed, every component tag checked by eye, every bill of materials counted by hand and recounted after each change. This toolset understands that a line between two symbols is a conductor with a number, that a coil somewhere has contacts elsewhere, and that both facts should be maintained automatically when the drawing changes.
That is the whole value proposition and it holds up. On a panel design of any size the time saved on numbering, cross referencing and reporting is measured in days, and the errors avoided are the expensive kind that only surface during commissioning. This build carries the full toolset with the symbol libraries and the license state already applied, so nothing has to be attached to an account before you can open a drawing.
Schematics that maintain themselves
Wires inserted with the toolset's commands are real wires. They take a number automatically according to the numbering scheme configured for the project, and when a drawing is inserted, deleted or renumbered the whole set updates rather than going stale. The same applies to component tags, which follow a sequence per drawing or per project as you prefer.
Coils and their contacts are cross referenced automatically. Place a relay coil on one sheet and its contacts on three others, and each symbol carries a reference to where the others are, updated as sheets move. That single feature eliminates the most common source of commissioning surprises, which is a contact somebody forgot existed on a sheet nobody reprinted.
The symbol libraries cover both the international and the North American standards, with ladder diagrams, one line diagrams, panel layouts, PLC modules and the hydraulic and pneumatic sets included. PLC modules can be generated from a spreadsheet of addresses, which turns the least interesting drafting task in the discipline into an import.
Reports and the document package
The report generator reads the drawing set and produces the documents that actually get handed over: bill of materials, wire from and to lists, terminal plans, cable summaries, PLC address lists and component cross reference tables. They export to a spreadsheet or drop back into the drawing set as formatted tables, and they regenerate rather than being maintained.
Terminal strip editing deserves a mention on its own. The terminal plan builds from the schematic, jumpers and multiple level terminals are handled properly, and the resulting strip drawing is generated rather than drawn. On a panel with several hundred terminations that is the difference between a day of drafting and a coffee.
Working with the rest of AutoCAD
Everything underneath is still AutoCAD, so the file format, the drafting commands, the layer and layout system, the plotting setup and the external reference workflow are all exactly what a drafter already knows. A drawing produced here opens in plain AutoCAD, where the intelligence appears as ordinary blocks and attributes, which matters when you are handing files to somebody who does not have the toolset.
Panel layout drawings can be built from the schematic component list, with footprints scaled to the real dimensions of the parts, so the enclosure can be checked for fit before it is ordered. Wire annotation carries the conductor sizes and the length estimates through to the layout, which feeds the cable schedule.

Installing it
- Unpack the archive to a path with no spaces or accented characters.
- Suspend real time protection until the install and the licensing step have both finished.
- Run the setup executable as administrator and include the content libraries when prompted.
- Let the installer finish and restart the machine when it asks.
- Open the program, skip the sign in prompt, and confirm the toolset ribbon tabs are present.

Questions about this release
Do the drawings open in plain AutoCAD?
Yes. The intelligence is stored as blocks and attributes, so a drawing opens anywhere, it just will not maintain itself outside the toolset.
Are both symbol standards included?
Yes, the international and North American libraries both install and either can be set as the project default.
Does it need a sign in?
No. The license state is applied in this build, so the prompt can be skipped at first launch.
Can I install it next to plain AutoCAD?
Yes, they install side by side with separate profiles. Be aware that opening an electrical project in plain AutoCAD and saving will not break it, but edits will not be tracked.
Why is the cross reference update slow on my project?
Usually a very large drawing set on a mechanical drive. Move the project folder to an SSD and the update time drops sharply.

Cross referencing on a 400 sheet job actually keeps up now. Used to go and make tea during an update.
Installed next to standard AutoCAD, both fine. Skipped the sign in, no complaints since.
Comments are read before they appear. If a build stops working, say so here and it gets rebuilt rather than quietly left up.
Terminal strip fix is real. Multi level assignments were getting eaten in the last build and it cost me a reprint.
