Overview

Pitch correction has two entirely different uses and this bundle serves both. The first is invisible: a good singer, a good take, one note slightly flat, corrected so subtly that nobody including the singer can hear it happened. The second is the opposite: correction set so fast that the pitch snaps between notes instantly, producing the stepped robotic sound that has been a defining vocal texture across popular music for over two decades.

The unlimited bundle is every plug-in the company makes rather than the flagship alone, which is where the value is. Harmony generation, throat modelling, formant manipulation, vocal effects, transformation and the standalone editing environment are all included, licensed and ready. They install as plug-ins into any host that accepts the standard formats.

Correction, from transparent to extreme

The core parameter is retune speed. Slow speeds let the natural pitch variation of a human voice through, correcting only the sustained centre of a note, and at those settings the effect is genuinely inaudible as processing. Fast speeds remove the transitions entirely, snapping instantly from one scale note to the next, which is the recognisable effect.

The scale can be set to a key, to a custom set of allowed notes, or to chromatic. Locking to the actual key of the song matters enormously, because a chromatic setting lets a note that is a semitone wrong stay wrong, only more confidently. Individual notes can be removed from the scale to stop the correction pulling towards a note that is not in the melody, which is the single most useful adjustment and the one most people never make.

Graphical editing and the standalone environment

For work that automatic correction cannot handle, the graphical mode shows the detected pitch curve of the performance and lets each note be edited by hand: moved, flattened, curved, its vibrato depth adjusted, its timing nudged. This is how professional vocal tuning is actually done on a record, note by note, and it produces a result that automatic correction cannot approach.

The standalone environment handles the same work outside a host, with multiple tracks and a proper timeline, which suits editing a full vocal comp before it goes back into a session. Edits are non destructive and export as either audio or as data that can be reapplied.

The rest of the bundle

Harmony generation produces up to four additional voices following the lead, with per voice pitch, timing humanisation, formant offset and panning, so a stacked harmony does not sound like four copies of the same singer. Throat modelling alters the resonant characteristics of the vocal tract, which changes the apparent size and character of a voice in a way that equalisation cannot.

Formant shifting separates pitch from timbre so a voice can be transposed without turning into a chipmunk. The effects set covers vocal distortion, doubling, ducking, de essing, mutation into robotic and choral textures, and a mic modelling plug-in that emulates the characteristics of a range of microphones on an already recorded take.

What you get

  • Automatic pitch correction with retune speed from transparent to instant snapping
  • Key, custom scale and chromatic modes with individual notes removable
  • Graphical note by note editing of pitch curve, vibrato and timing
  • Standalone multi track editing environment with non destructive edits
  • Harmony generation up to four voices with humanisation and formant offset
  • Throat modelling for altering vocal tract resonance
  • Formant shifting that separates pitch from timbre
  • Vocal effects set including doubling, de essing, distortion and mutation
  • Microphone modelling applied to already recorded takes

Installing it

  1. Close your audio workstation completely before starting.
  2. Unpack the archive and disable real time protection for the install.
  3. Run setup and set the plug-in installation path to match where your host scans.

Questions about this release

How do I get the obvious robotic effect?

Set retune speed to zero or near it and lock the scale to the song's key. That combination is the sound, and it has been since it was discovered by accident.

How do I make correction inaudible instead?

Slow retune speed, correct scale, and remove notes from the scale that are not in the melody. Most audible correction artefacts come from the plug-in pulling towards a note the singer never intended.

Which host formats are included?

The common standards are all present. Select only the ones your workstation scans during install rather than installing everything.

Why is pitch detection wrong on my take?

Breathy, very low or heavily processed material confuses detection. Tune the raw vocal before any effects, and use the graphical mode where the automatic detection fails.

Whole bundle installed and scanned first try. Graphical mode is what I actually use, note by note.

Removing the notes not in the melody from the scale fixed every artefact I was fighting. Should be the first thing anyone learns.

Harmony generator with humanisation on does not sound like four clones. That was my worry.
