Overview
Live is two programs sharing one set of sounds. The session view is a grid of loops and clips you trigger by hand, which is how the program got its name and why it ends up on stage. The arrangement view is a conventional linear timeline for finishing a track. Ideas move between the two freely, so a jam recorded in the grid becomes a structured arrangement without being rebuilt, and that loop is the reason people who use it rarely move to anything else.
This is the Suite edition, which is the one that includes everything: every instrument, every audio effect, every MIDI device, Max for Live, and the full sound library rather than the trimmed selection the smaller editions carry. The licensing is handled in the build, so there is no authorisation dialog, no save disabled trial mode and no export limit.
Session view, arrangement view and how they meet
In session view every clip is a cell in a grid, quantised to launch on a bar or a beat, and a row of cells fired together makes a scene. That is a performance instrument as much as a writing tool, and because everything is tempo synced you can drop a loop recorded at one tempo into a project at another and it follows.
The arrangement view is where a track gets finished. Recording a session performance writes it straight into the timeline as real clips with real automation, which can then be edited conventionally. Going the other way, a section of the arrangement can be pulled back into the grid to try alternatives. The 12 cycle sharpened the MIDI tools around this considerably, with generative and transformative tools that reshape a clip in place rather than requiring a plug-in.
Instruments, effects and Max for Live
The instrument list covers the ground properly: sampling in three different forms, subtractive and wavetable synthesis, physical modelling, drum programming and a full orchestral and acoustic sampled collection. The effects run from the utilitarian to the deliberately destructive, with the compressors, delays and reverbs being the ones most people never replace with third party plug-ins.
Max for Live is included and is the difference between the Suite and everything below it. It hosts a large library of extra devices and lets you build your own, which is how the more unusual sequencers, generative tools and control surface integrations get made. VST and the other plug-in formats are supported alongside it with no restriction.
Recording, hardware and latency
Audio recording is straightforward and multitrack, with comping across takes handled on lanes under the track. Latency depends almost entirely on your interface driver rather than on Live, so an audio interface with a proper low latency driver is worth more here than any amount of processor.
Control surfaces are recognised on connection and map themselves without a manual assignment pass. Anything not recognised can be mapped by hand in a few seconds, since mapping is a mode you enter rather than a dialog you fill in. External hardware synths can be routed through the mixer with latency compensation applied automatically.

Installing it
- Unpack the archive to a drive with enough space for the sound library as well as the program.
- Suspend real time protection before running setup.
- Install the application first, then point the installer at where the sound library should live. It does not have to be the system drive.
- Launch Live once and skip the authorisation panel. The licence is already applied.
- Set your audio device and buffer size in preferences before recording anything.

Questions about this release
Is this the Suite edition or a smaller one?
Suite. Every instrument, effect and sound pack is present, and Max for Live is included.
Does the sound library have to be on the system drive?
No. The installer asks where to put it and it can be moved later from preferences.
Are VST plug-ins supported?
Yes, the usual plug-in formats load with no restriction and latency is compensated automatically.
Why is my latency high?
Almost always the audio driver. A generic system driver will never be fast enough. Use the driver that came with your interface and lower the buffer size.

Max for Live is definitely there, loaded a device pack I already had. CPU is better than my old version on the same project.
Took the magnet for the 12 GB, seeded fine. Export is clean, no watermark tone or anything.
Comments are read before they appear. If a build stops working, say so here and it gets rebuilt rather than quietly left up.
Full library installed to a second drive without complaining. No authorisation screen at all, opens straight into a set.
