Overview
TeamViewer solved one problem so completely that it defined the category: connecting to a machine somewhere else without configuring anything on either network. No port forwarding, no fixed address, no virtual private network. Both ends run the program, one reads out an identifier and a password, and the session opens. Twenty years later that is still the reason it is the first thing suggested when someone needs to look at a relative's computer.
The build here has the commercial use detection removed, which is the thing that makes the standard free client cut sessions short after a few minutes and start warning about licensing. Everything else is the standard client: the remote control, the file transfer, the meeting mode, the unattended access and the session recording. There is a portable variant in the archive for support use where nothing should be installed on the machine being visited.
Connecting and controlling
A session gives keyboard and mouse control of the remote desktop with the display scaled or shown at original size, multiple monitors selectable individually or shown together, and a quality setting that trades detail against responsiveness on a poor connection. Clipboard content moves in both directions, and files can be dragged straight across the session window.
The toolbar carries the things a support session actually needs: a remote reboot that reconnects automatically afterwards, including into safe mode, a task manager and service view, a blank screen option so the person at the far end cannot see what you are doing, a lock on their keyboard and mouse, and a switch to hand control the other way. Sessions can be recorded to a file for documentation.
File transfer and unattended access
The file transfer panel is a two sided file browser with a queue, resumable transfers and no size limit. It runs alongside a control session or on its own without opening the remote desktop at all, which is faster when all you need is a log file.
Unattended access sets a permanent password on a machine so it can be reached without anyone being present to read out a code. Combined with wake on network support this covers the office machine you need from home. Access can be restricted to specific devices, and every connection to an unattended machine is logged with its time and origin.
Meetings, mobile and security
Meeting mode shares a screen to several viewers with voice, chat and a whiteboard over the shared image, and viewers can be given control individually. It is not a replacement for a dedicated conferencing tool but it is there when a support session turns into a demonstration for three people.
Every session is encrypted end to end and the identifier alone is not enough to connect, since the password is required and can be set to change per session. Two factor confirmation can be required on incoming connections. On the machine being visited, the portable variant leaves nothing behind after it closes, which matters for support work on hardware that is not yours.

Installing it
- Unpack the archive and choose the installer or the portable folder.
- For support use, run the portable variant. It leaves nothing on the visited machine.
- For your own machine, install and set an unattended password if you want to reach it later.
- Turn off real time protection during the install, since the commercial detection patch is rewritten.
- Launch and confirm no licensing notice appears in the session window.

Questions about this release
Will it cut my session off?
No. The commercial use detection is removed in this build, which is what causes the short sessions and the licensing warnings in the standard free client.
Does the portable version leave anything behind?
No. It runs from the folder and writes nothing to the profile or the registry.
Can I reach a machine with nobody sitting at it?
Yes, with unattended access set up on that machine first. It needs a fixed password and the machine has to be awake or reachable by wake on network.
Is the connection encrypted?
Yes, end to end. The identifier alone does not allow a connection, the password is always required.
