Overview
Rhino is the modeller people reach for when the geometry has to be exact and the shape has to be free. It is built on NURBS rather than polygons, which means a curve stays mathematically smooth no matter how far you zoom in and a surface can be handed to a machinist, a mould maker or a printer without being rebuilt first. That combination is why it turns up in product design, footwear, jewellery, boat hulls, architectural facades and anywhere else that a shape has to be both sculpted and manufactured.
This is the full desktop build with the licensing already handled, so there is no ninety day evaluation clock, no license key dialog on launch and no Cloud Zoo sign-in wall. Grasshopper is included as part of the program rather than as a separate download, the file translators are all present, and saving is enabled with no object count cap.
Modelling with curves and surfaces
The core of Rhino is a small set of surfacing commands that combine into almost anything: loft, sweep along one or two rails, network surface, revolve, patch and blend. Everything else in the program exists to feed those commands with clean curves or to fix the result afterwards. The 8 cycle put its effort into the parts that used to fail quietly, so blends now hold curvature continuity across a chain of edges and the trim operation no longer leaves the microscopic gaps that would later refuse to join into a closed solid.
SubD sits alongside the NURBS toolset rather than replacing it, and it is the reason this version changed how a lot of people work. You can push and pull a rough form the way you would in a polygon sculptor, then convert to a NURBS surface with the creases and smoothness preserved, which removes the old choice between drawing something exact and drawing something that looks right.
Grasshopper and scripted geometry
Grasshopper is the visual programming environment that turns a model into a definition. You wire components together on a canvas, the geometry updates live in the viewport, and a facade panelling study that would take a week by hand becomes a slider you drag. It is included here with the standard component set and the data tree tools that make list handling survivable on a large definition.
For anyone who prefers text, the script editor handles Python and the .NET languages against the same object model, and scripts can be published as their own commands or as Grasshopper components. Both routes run offline in this build with nothing calling out for authorisation.
File exchange, drawings and rendering
The translator list is the practical reason Rhino ends up as the middle of a pipeline. It reads and writes the solid modelling formats, the mesh formats, the drafting formats and the surveying formats, and it is usually more forgiving of a broken file than the program that produced it. Import a model that the original package refuses to open, repair the geometry, and write it back out.
Two dimensional output is handled through layouts with detail views, dimensions and hatching, so a drawing set can be produced without a round trip to a drafting package. Rendering is built in with a physically based material system, and the usual third party engines install as plug-ins without any change to this build.

Installing it
- Unpack the archive to a folder with no accented characters in the path.
- Suspend real time protection before running setup, since the license module is rewritten during install.
- Run the installer as administrator and let it finish without interrupting it.
- Launch Rhino once and dismiss the start panel. No key entry is needed.
- Set your interface language and unit template from options before starting a real model.

Is Grasshopper included or separate?
Included. It ships as part of the program in this version and opens from the command line or the toolbar with nothing extra to install.
Does the evaluation counter come back?
No. The licensing is handled inside the build, so there is no ninety day clock and no save restriction.
Will third party plug-ins install?
Yes. The plug-in folder is untouched and installers written for this version find it without help.
Can I open files made in older Rhino versions?
Yes, back through the legacy formats, and you can save down from the save dialog if someone else needs an older file.

Grasshopper opens straight away, all the standard components are there. Ran an old definition without changing anything.
Imported a broken solid that our other package refused to touch and Rhino repaired it in about a minute.
